There is more to Las Vegas dining than gargantuan buffets. Next visit to Sin City, skip the self serve line and eat in one of the local's favourite restaurants.

Sin City has a myriad of different restaurants that the average tourist will overlook. The simplicity to eating at the hotel buffet can be appealing but with a car and a good road map, there is a lot to discover in Las Vegas, Nevada. All three of these restaurants generally cater to a local clientele but they are also very close to desirable tourist attractions.

The Hash House A Go Go boasts about serving "twisted farm food" but what they should call it is abundantly delicious. It’s probably best to split an entrée, (there is a small fee for sharing) because the pounded pork sandwich is considerably larger than the plate it is served on.

Hash House is no where near Las Vegas Blvd but it is very close to Red Rock Canyon. After a day trip of hiking and sight seeing in the Red Rock Conservation Area, hang out with the local residents before heading back to the strip.

The Triple George Grill is located on an odd little side street, two blocks from Glitter Gulch. Busy during the day, expect to encounter local business professionals, lawyers and civil servants. At night, request one of the popular (and private) booths for a clandestine dinner date.

The Fremont Street Experience and downtown Las Vegas is a welcome reprieve from the mammoth casinos on the strip and The Triple George Grill is by far the best reason to head downtown. Check out the “10 under $10” menu for lunch or the pot roast, which is a staff favourite. Make use of the free valet service or park in the Lady Luck garage. Be sure to check out the vintage casino signs from The Neon Museum on Fremont Street.

Late Night Dining Close to the Outlet Mall

The Bootlegger Bistro offers around the clock dining, seven days a week. There is live entertainment after 9:00 pm as well as a video poker bar amid the stone archways and red table cloths.

A family-style Italian restaurant, expect huge portions of pasta and meat but sadly not much flavour. Bootlegger’s proximity to the Las Vegas Outlet Mall makes it an easy place to relax after a day of shopping but it may not be worth the trek on its own. There are better places to eat and shows to see in Las Vegas.

Eating, drinking and gambling are all popular pastimes when visiting Las Vegas, Nevada. Next time, dine out with the locals and see a different side to Sin City.
