Las Vegas is a delightful playground full of entertainment, gambling and five star restaurants but there are also many other attractions to visit in and around the casinos too. These attractions are free to the public and make great stops for couples out for a stroll or families looking for entertainment that fits into their budget. Each attraction is well worth the time spent experiencing it.
The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Located at the beautiful Bellagio Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard South is the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. This ever-changing display of lush plants, trees and flowers is a delightful garden to stroll in with a loved one or with family. Artistically arranged plant life along with ponds, streams, waterfalls, bridges and gazebos make it a relaxing place of beauty in sharp contrast to the neon lights of Vegas. The garden display is changed five times a year to make this 13,500 square foot garden feel like a new attraction at every visit. The conservatory is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and is free to the public.
The Bellagio Fountains
While visiting the Bellagio do not miss the display of water, lights and music known as the Bellagio Fountains. Located just outside the Bellagio Hotel is an eight acre lake that houses the fabulous fountain display every 15 to 30 minutes depending upon the time of day. One thousand fountains and four thousand lights transform a simple pool of water into a spectacular dance of water choreographed to music. At night lights are added for an even more beautiful presentation but the fountains are worth seeing any time of the day or night.
The Mirage Aquarium
Located just behind the front desk of the Mirage Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard sits a 20,000 gallon salt water aquarium tank filled with over 1000 coral reef animals. Sharks, eels, sting rays, puffer fish and sea bass are just a few of the species in the tank that originate from places such as Australia, Fiji, the Sea of Cortez, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Tonga and the Marshall Islands. After a recent transformation, the real coral from the tank was exchanged for artificial coral in order to keep the water clean and clear. Visitors can view the tank any time of the day or night at no charge.
Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo
The Flamingo Hotel has been the cornerstone of Las Vegas since 1946 and only gets better with age. Located at the corners of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, the Flamingo offers over 15 acres of lush gardens, swaying palm trees and fabulous pools. Amid this scenery is the Wildlife Habitat. The habitat is filled with lush foliage, ponds, streams and waterfalls as well as over 300 exotic birds, turtles and Koi fish. Stroll along paths and over bridges and view the many varieties of flamingos, parrots, swans, ducks and even quail. Find a quiet bench to sit and enjoy the scenery and wildlife. The Wildlife Habitat is open to the public all hours of the day and night.
Lion Habitat at the MGM Grand
The king of the jungle has long been the logo for MGM and visitors can enjoy seeing these regal cats for free at the MGM Grand Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard. Daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, male and female lions are on display in the lion habitat inside the hotel. Trainers give presentations throughout the day and visitors can also watch as trainers feed the lions. There are over 30 lions that rotate turns in the display with no lions staying over six hours at a time. The lions actually live on a ranch outside of Vegas and are brought in daily to the habitat. Visit often throughout the day to see a variety of lions as they change them every few hours. The purpose of the habitat is to inform and educate the public about these beautiful animals making it a wonderful display for adults and children alike.
