Think Las Vegas. Think gambling? Think again. Here are five free fun things to do on the Las Vegas Strip that don't involve dice, cards or slot machines.

From dawn until dusk, Las Vegas never sleeps. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, just about everything is always open. Maximize that next visit to Vegas by enjoying these free fun things that happen every single day on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip.

Flamingo Wildlife Habitat

Enjoy a stroll through the interior courtyard at the Flamingo where exotic birds and humongous Koi fish are highlighted in a natural habitat. Included are Chilean Flamingoes, tall, pink and majestic, standing on spindly legs; flamboyant cockatoos and a variety of rare fish, including the colorful Koi. Benches are set up along the winding path for visitors to take their time and relax in the shaded outdoor area.

The Sirens of TI

The outdoor Siren’s Cove is the site of a nightly battle between Treasure Island’s sexy sirens and handsome renegade pirates. This music and dance extravaganza plays out four times a night at 7:00, 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30. Find a good spot early out on the gangplank sidewalk because it tends to get very crowded.

The Volcano at the Mirage

Erupting every hour from dusk until 11:00 p.m. every night, the recently redesigned volcano event has been exploding nightly since 1989. It features a soundtrack created by Grammy award-winning Mickey Hart and Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain. Viewed up close and personal, the explosive effects are equal to a Fourth of July celebration. Again, find a good spot early as the sidewalk tends to get very crowded. The volcano explosion can also be seen quite well from across the street in front of Casino Royale.

The Fountains of Bellagio

More than 1,000 dancing fountains choreographed to the music of Celine Dion, Frank Sinatra, Bocelli, Pavarotti and more entertain the masses. Shows are daily, but at different times, so check with the hotel before finding a prime viewing spot on the Bellagio walkway. Tip: turn all cell phones off during the water show, please. It’s all about listening to (and hearing) the music in conjunction with the fountains going off.

Lion Habitat at MGM Grand

Stand underneath this glass-floored, multi-level habitat and watch the lions play, eat or just sleep. There are usually trainers inside the habitat with the lions, playing with them and exercising them. The habitat is open daily, but the number of lions inside may vary at any given time. One or more of the lions may even be direct descendents of the original MGM movie lion.

While gambling is a pleasant diversion for some, there are many other things going on in Las Vegas that involve fresh air, sunshine and a truly unique entertainment experience.
