View the stars and planets during SkyTalks at Reno's only planetarium, plus enjoy 3-D documentary films and planetary views throughout the year. Enjoy special shows, too.

Fleischmann Planetarium, located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, was built in 1964, and it was the first planetarium in the world to offer movies shown on a full planetarium dome. Extensively remodeled just a few years ago, the planetarium offers high-resolution 3-D films from fascinating documentaries to images of the stars, planets, and solar system. It also has a museum, science center, gift shop, and planetary viewing opportunities throughout the month.

Films at the Planetarium

The films change often at the planetarium, but there are some ongoing shows that occur at special times throughout the year. Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd runs every Saturday at 8 p.m., and tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors 54 and over and there is a parental advisory for adult content in this show.

Ticket prices can be higher for some special presentations, but generally they are $6 for adults, and $4 for children under 14 and seniors 54 and over.

The Museum and ScienceCenter

The Museum and Science Center at the Planetarium are free to visitors to enjoy while they attend a 3-D show or not. In the museum, the kids will find the displays on the planets and meteorites especially fascinating, and new exhibits downstairs highlight NASA, space art, and more. Interactive displays will keep the kids' attention until the show starts.

Star Talks

These are some of the most popular events at the planetarium. They include a multimedia presentation, and then a telescope viewing of what's happening in the sky at the planetarium's observatory located right across the street in Rancho San Rafael Park. The Star Talks take place on the first Friday of every month (weather permitting) at 6 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults, and $4 for children and seniors.

Location and Hours

Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center is located at 1650 North Virginia Street, on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, just north of the Lawlor Events Center, just 1 1/2 miles north of downtown Reno.
