Labor Day marks the end of the summer season in the Reno area, and it's a safe bet you can find all sorts of entertainment, activities, and events to keep you busy over the long weekend, from the annual Best of the West Rib Cook-Off to camping and boating, Northern Nevada offers something for everyone on Labor Day.

Virginia City

Virginia City Civil War Days

Aug 30 through Sept. 1, 2008, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Miners Park

"Real" Confederate and Union soldiers take over Virginia City as they reenact Civil War battles for the V&T trains. See encampments at Miners Park and a battle for "C "Street after the parade on Labor Day. For more information contact 775-786-9754.

Labor Day Parade

Sept. 1, 2008 beginning at 12:00pm. Watch the Labor Day Parade as it passes down "C" Street, with a Civil War battle at the end of the parade. For more information contact the Virginia City Visitor's Center at 775-847-4386 or the Virginia City Chamber of Commerce at 775-847-0311.

Sparks

Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.

Reno

Truckee River Music Festival

Aug. 30, 2008 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm

West Street Plaza, 200 West First Street. Enjoy this 2nd annual FREE music concert featuring jazz, rock n roll, hip hop, and reggae music. There will be food booths by local merchants Java Jungle, Reno Envy, Sierra Tap House, and Beach Hut Deli, too. Enjoy a day of music, great food and beverages.
