Lake Tahoe Shakespeare FestivalSand Harbor Near Incline Village Transforms into Shakespearean FestThe Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is a Lake Tahoe long-standing tradition that happens every summer. This year's event takes place from July 10 through August 17, 2008.
There's nothing better than enjoying a fine piece of comedy or drama on the stunning shores of Lake Tahoe. That's what you'll find every summer at the annual Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival.
The Plays
The LocationSet on the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival may be one of the most breathtaking venues on earth. The Festival takes place in Sand Harbor State Park, offering superb views of Lake Tahoe behind the stage and sets. Sand Harbor is located near Incline Village on State Route 28. If you don't want to drive, there will be shuttles to the park available from Incline Village, and Reno/Sparks. You can call 800-74-SHOWS for more information on the shuttle service. You can also buy shuttle tickets online, and print them from your own computer. The shuttle will pick up at The Summit Reno Mall at 13925 South Virginia Street, at 4:00 p.m. each day. Shakespeare's Kitchen and VineyardMany festival-goers enjoy bringing a picnic supper with them to the event, and these impromptu dinners can get very elaborate. In the past, table settings complete with candelabras and flowers are common. Coolers are not allowed in some sections, so check to make sure you can bring a cooler before you head out to the Festival. If you don't want to bring your own dinner, you can also enjoy Shakespeare's Kitchen, the onsite restaurant, which serves light offerings like salads and sandwiches, up to full meals. You can pre-order your dinner from a limited menu, or order when you get to Sand Harbor. Prices range from $10 to $20 for entrees and appetizers. You can also check out Shakespeare's Vineyard, the onsite wine tasting experience that takes place before each night's performance. Wine tasting is $25 per person, and includes five different samples from California and around the world. TicketsYou can buy tickets online at Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival Tickets, you can call 800-74-SHOWS to order with a credit card, or you can buy them from the Box Office, located at 948 Incline Way in Incline Village, Nevada. You can also buy them right at the Festival on the evening of the show, but they may be sold out, so it's better to buy ahead. You can also purchase wine tasting tickets online, and rent chairs if you need them. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. each evening, and the play begins at 7:30 p.m. with an opening Green Show beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets range from $22 to $67 during the week and $22 to $72 on the weekends. Youths 15 and under are $14 to $17 during the week, and $19 to $22 on the weekends. Chair rentals are $3, and seating is provided in some of the sections. You can bring your own low-backed sand chairs in some sections, too.
