The Master Craft Pro Wakeboard Tour is coming to Reno, and better than that, it's ending the season here and handing out awards to the season championships here, too. Wakeboarding is an exciting sport and best of all, tickets for the event are really reasonable. They start at only $5 if you buy them in advance online, click here to buy them. Tickets are $10 if you buy them at the event on the day of the event.

The Tour

The Pro Wakeboard Tour, now in its 17th year, brings one of the fastest-growing water sports to Reno and Sparks on July 11 through the 13, 2008. It's a combination of surfing and water skiing packed into one sport, and it combines the speed and accuracy of both sports. It also includes elements of snowboarding and skateboarding, so it appeals to the entire family and can be thrilling to watch. Some of the tricks can go as high as 25-feet into the air, with many tricks resembling those of snowboarding and other extreme sports.

The sport began in San Diego in 1985, when Tony Finn saw the potential of creating a small board, shaped much like a small surfbord, that could be towed behind a boat. The sport has grown and evolved since then, into the championship sport it is today. It is amazing to watch the athletes in action, and the Sparks Marina location will allow spectators great, up close views of all the action.

The SparksMarina

The Reno/Sparks event is the last stop on this year's tour, which began in Georgia in May and has stopped at several locations across the country before ending in Reno. The Reno event will be held at the Sparks Marina, just a short drive from downtown Reno and downtown Sparks.

The event kicks off on Friday, July 11 with the Junior Men's Quarterfinals at 10:00 a.m., and continues through the weekend, culminating in the championship and the awards presentation on Sunday evening. The Sparks Marina will have plenty of seating for the event, and there will be concession booths at the event, as well.

Directions to the Marina

From Highway 395, take Interstate 80 toward Sparks/Elko (East). Take the McCarran Blvd exit (Exit 19). Turn left on McCarran and follow to Lincoln Way. Turn right on Lincoln Way, and follow to Howard Road, turn right on Howard, and follow to the seating area on the shore of the Sparks Marina.

The Awards Ceremony and Location

Awards will be given on Sunday, July 13, at 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Celebrity Showroom in John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks. The presentation will kick off with appetizers, an end of the season video accenting some of the most unforgettable moments on the 2008 tour, and culminating with the awards presentation.

Some of these awards include the Indmar Performance Award, a $5,000 prize for the Women's Division Pro winner, a $10,000 cash bonus to the top points earner in the Pro Men's Division, and a Rookie of the Year award, also for the Pro Men's Division.
