Nevada Day Weekend in Carson City, NevadaCelebrate Nevada's Statehood Anniversary with Parades and More
Nevada Day marks the entry of Nevada into the Union in 1864, and people celebrate all over the Silver State with parades, events, and celebrations.
For most people, October 31st means one thing – Halloween, but in Nevada, it means Nevada Day, and a whole lot of celebrating Nevada's historic past. Much of the celebrating takes place in Carson City, Nevada's capital city, including the parade, carnival, and a whole host of other events that range from historic tours to fireworks, concerts, and chili feeds. The celebration begins on October 30, and runs through November 2, and all events are in Carson City, unless otherwise noted. Get Ready for Nevada Day Events on Thursday, Oct. 30Enjoy the RSVP Carnival at Mills Park, with rides for kids and adults. The carnival opens at 4 pm Thursday and at noon on Oct. 31-Nov. 2. Admission is free, but the rides cost money. Kick Off the Nevada Day Weekend With Events on Friday, Oct. 31Check out the Nevada Day Pow-Wow on Oct. 31-Nov. 2. See Native American dancing while gazing at food, arts and crafts, and entertainment in the Colony Gym on South Curry Street. Free admission. Call 775-841-3182 for more information. Dance the night away at the Mad Hatter Ball All ages are welcome from 8:30-10 pm at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. Adult tickets are $9 and kids under 16 are free with an adult; otherwise kids tickets are $4 each. Call 775-883-9351 for more information. Something for Everyone at Nevada Day Events for Saturday, Nov. 1Get some exercise at the Carson Nugget Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk in Carson City's historical district. The event includes an 8K run at 8:15 am, a two-mile walk at 8:25 am, and a two-mile fun run at 8:25 am. Registration is $25. Races begin at corner of Telegraph Street and Curry Street. Proceeds benefit the Special Olympics. Call 775-883-3361 for registration and more information. The Nevada Day Parade festivities feature marching bands, floats, equestrian groups, and historical displays. The parade starts at 10 am at William Street and U.S. Highway 50 and ends near Stewart Street and Carson Street. Call 775-882-2600 for parade information. The Annual Nevada Day Beard Contest follows the parade and takes place on the steps of the State Capitol. Admission and contest entry are free, with winners chosen in these categories: longest; fullest; reddest; whitest; blackest; best salt and pepper; best groomed; scruffiest; and most bearded community. The 26th Annual Chili Feed takes place at the Carson Nugget’s upstairs Banquet Center, from noon-2 pm. The Governor’s Mansion, located at 606 North Mountain Street, will be open for tours from 2-4 pm. The 8th Annual Silver State Rumble highlighting live amateur boxing will take place at 3 pm at the Carson City Community Center, 851 East Williams Street. Fifteen bouts are scheduled. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and kids under six are free. Call 775-888-6806 for more info. Take in the Pinewood Derby Race on Saturday from 1-5 pm at 1313 South Carson Street. Registration is free and begins at 11 am. Kits for derby cars cost $4 and can be purchased at any American Family Insurance office. All ages welcome. End the Weekend WIth Sunday, Nov. 2 Nevada Day EventsThe Nevada State Railroad Museum, located at 2180 South Carson Street, is giving the public rides on an 1888 locomotive from 10 am to 4 pm.
