Shopping is an adventure in "America's Adventure Place," and the family can find a wide variety of malls and shops to browse when visiting Northern Nevada.
There really aren't that many malls in Reno. With the addition of Summit Sierra on the Mt. Rose Highway, there are a whopping total of two. There are some other strip malls that make the grade, however. So, shop 'til you drop at some great locations throughout the area. The Summit Reno This newest mall opened in March 2006, making it the newest mall in the area. It has all the shops Renoites have been clamoring after for years, from Dillard's to William-Sonoma and Pottery Barn. A theatre complex, dining, and a shuttle make it easy to spend the day here. The Summit Reno is located at 13925 South Virginia Street at the intersection of the Mt. Rose Highway. Call 775-853-7800 for more information. Meadowood MallUsed to being the big daddy of Reno shopping, Meadowood is now second-cousin to The Summit Reno. It has a big variety of stores, and some of Reno's age-old favorites, like Sears and J.C. Penney's. Since it's covered and indoors, it has the advantage in bad weather. Meadowood is located at 5000 Meadowood Mall Circle. Call 775-827-8450 for more information. Shopper's SquareLocated right across the street from what used to be Park Lane Mall, Shopper's Square is a tiny mall with a few shops. The best picks are Ben Franklin's Crafts, the Wild Bird Store, and Marshall's. Used to be a strip mall, but it's gotten bigger. Shopper's Square is located at 370 Casazza Drive. Call 775-323-0430 for more information. Firecreek Crossing & Redfield PromenadeThis really isn't a mall, just a big group of stores, but it has some great shopping options, from Cost Plus World Market to Michael's Crafts, Sam's Club, T.J. Maxx, and Old Navy. Find just about everything in Firecreek and across the street at the Redfield Promenade, plus grab a bite at several eateries. The stores are located at the intersection of McCarran Boulevard and Kietzke Lane in South Reno. Smithridge Center Another group of stores rather than a mall, Smithridge seems to have been around forever. The top reason for shopping there? Trader Joe's, it's the only location in Reno. Find small craft stores, A Toys 'R Us, Stein Mart, Big Lots, and eateries, too. Smithridge Center is located at 5081 South McCarran Boulevard, call 775-827-1000 for more information. Airport SquareA group of stores close to the airport, the big draw here is Costco. It's the only Reno location, so be prepared for a packed parking lot during most business hours. Also many other small shops and a Mor Furniture Store. Airport Square is located at 1200 East Plumb Lane. Franktown CornersThis charming mall just can't seem to compete with the others around town. It has indoor shopping, but not a lot of traffic. Outside is one of the most popular car washes in Reno, and inside is the best card/gift shop in town, Best Wishes. Several other small boutiques and shops are also in residence, including a cooking school and liquor store. Franktown Corners is located at 2303 Kietzke Lane. Scheels and the Legends Sparks Marina Scheels is a huge sporting goods store in the Legends Shopping Center in East Sparks. Legends includes trendy shops, eateries, and much more. Take the family and be sure to ride the Ferris wheel inside the store, and check out the floor-to-ceiling aquariums while shopping, too. Legends is located north of Interstate 80, between Sparks Boulevard and Sparks Marina Park. Call 775-331-2700 for more information. Cabela'sCabela's big store offers sporting goods, arcade games, natural exhibits featuring stuffed animals, and a restaurant. Just like Scheels, the family can spend the entire day in Cabela's just shopping, playing, and taking in the scenery. Cabela's is located in Verdi, just west of Reno on Interstate 80, at 8650 Boomtown Road. Call 775-829-4100 for more information. Reno Town Malll A mall turned into offices and classrooms, Reno Town Mall still houses Birkenstock's, the Burlington Coat Factory, and some other small offerings. The big draw is the Sierra View county library. There's a popular Raley's Grocery store attached to the mall, too. Located at South Virginia Street at East Peckham Lane, call 775-823-4680 for more information.
